Japan
I spent a month in Japan during October 2019 and it completely lived up to the superb reputation it had gained amongst my friends, family, other travellers and just about anyone who has been there. I can guarantee that I will go back, a month wasn’t even close to enough time to even get a glimpse of all that there is on offer here.
Normally the two things everyone tells you about Japan is that it is amazing and that it is unbelievably expensive. I agree with the first of these but really didn’t find it all that expensive, certainly nowhere near as bad as I had been expecting. Everything costs dramatically more than other Asian countries but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have been able to spend a month anywhere in Western Europe or North America for the same amount.
I spent most of my time in the southwest of the country with a week on the stunning island of Kyushu before heading north to Tokyo where I spent nearly two weeks exploring the gigantic, insane, metropolis. Definitely one of my favouirte cities anywhere! I also made short stops in Hiroshima, Nara, Kyoto, Himeji, Kobe and Osaka. There was so much more to see that a full three month trip will definitely be required, and maybe more than one!
